A Weekend at Lake Geneva

A couple of weekends ago, we jumped in our minivan and headed to Lake Geneva resort for an AmFam-sponsored, work-filled weekend for Ashley and a fun weekend for Bryan and Katie.

Katie and Gianna loved the waterpark. And Bryan loved spending time with the girls! If you disregard the insane Saturday night when 1) our roommate went the ER for a potential heart attack and 2) when Katie screamed and cried from 1am-3am...we had a nice retreat!

(Luckily, Curt only had a case of isolated pnemonia. However, the inept ER workers had to run 2 EKGs because the first one didn't work. Hopefully they don't charge Curt for both of them!).

A Typical Sunday

Katie loves Sundays--after all, she gets to see Daddy all day, plays with a bunch of new toys & kids in Sunday School, and gets 2 morning snacks (thanks to the generous nursery workers and our church's Panera table in the welcome lobby). Usually when we get home from church, she's quite sleepy. But today, she went straight for her toys and dumped them everywhere before settling in to watch a Baby Einstein DVD.

Friday Night Pizza

It's rainy and cold outside! Instead of going out for a typical Friday night ice cream sundae, we catered in pizza.

Getting Some Sun and Horeb Park

Bryan and I acted like kids on Saturday and went to the local pool together. I tanned nicely--he burned nicely!

Saints and Soldiers

Here's an off-the-beaten-path movie for a World War Two buff like Bryan. We watched it on Friday evening from hulu.com. One thing I noticed about the movie is its presence of the the LDS group (Latter Day Saints). I found out today from my friend Ruth that the movie is produced by Excel Group, which is a Mormon company. We really liked the movie! It's based on a historical event, not as violent as Saving Private Ryan, and shows the possible redemption of the human spirit. Definitely a great snuggle movie! (And a conversation piece for the next day!)

Girls' Night Out!

Michele Stawicki won a makeover session at a local charity auction, so she took 4 girls from work to get our makeup done at Blush in the Third Ward. After the 2 hour makeup session, we grabbed some dinner at Flying Waterbuffalo and went to hear some great music (and dodged some really weird guys) at the Irish Pub.

Favorite Pewaukee Hotspots: Bubba's and the Beach

After dinner, the three of us went to Bubba's to share our beloved Cookie Monster sundae. We drove by the beach and decided to stop--after all, Katie has never been in the sand. She loved it, and she whined every time we took her away from the water!

A few things we learned over Memorial Day weekend

  1. We're not very good at growing things except weeds and beans
  2. Katie's knees get really dirty really fast
  3. Oreo cookie custard can taste so-so
  4. We'd rather spend 5 hours doing something besides yard work
  5. No matter how much work we do, our neighbor's yard will ALWAYS look better (but they use their kids as slave labor)

We're Off to Minnesota!

This weekend, the three of us are spending the weekend in Amboy/Lake Crystal, Minnesota. Bryan's grandmother is celebrating her 90th birthday. We're staying on a pig farm with Bryan's cousin, Shannon. Maybe we'll get to see some piglets! Maybe we'll eat bacon for breakfast on Saturday!

Once we return, we'll be starting our next big project--our summer garden! Here's a taste of what we hope to see in the fall.

Daddy Comes Home Today!

Bryan is working as a National Board Examiner this weekend, testing students on their final (clincial) phase of becoming an optometrist. Katie and I are by ourselves this weekend but are not lonely!

Yesterday, my co-worker Ava and I went to a couple of cutsie shops in Pewaukee. Last night, 2 couples and their kids came over for Bible Study. Peyton loves balls--and he (nor his parents) care if they're kid toys or dog toys! I made dinner--spagetti sauce in a crockpot, garlic bread, salad, cheesecake and ice cream cake. Everything was delicious!

Here's Katie, waiting for Daddy to come home.

Grazing with Bryan

While we waited for Katie to wake up from her afternoon nap, I fed Bryan salami (Patrick Cudahay hard salami) with swiss cheese. No bread. Yummy! (And yes--both were on sale at Pick N Save for $4.99/lb!).

Bryan's Man-Dates

Bryan has been really busy the past 2 Friday nights--with a guy, Curt Wolniakowski. Last week, the two went across the street to Country Spring Hotel and had a few beers. I was expecting Bryan home by 9ish...so you can imagine my surprise when he woke me up at 11pm! Tonight, Curt is helping Bryan fix the beloved buick.

50 Degrees, 8 Dogs, One Fun Shopping Trip!

Katie begged us to take her for a walk today; after attending early church and having an early-morning conversation with our accountant, we headed out! (Shadow got to come along, too). Tons of people in our neighborhood were thinking the same thing; we saw 7 dogs being walked, and had sympathy for one poor dog trapped in his house--we were able to hear this dog barking through his screen door.

While Bryan and Katie napped, I headed to Kirklands to make a reality out of my birthday wish of decorating our master bedroom. Once Bryan puts my antique book case together and we put everything in its place, I will post pictures of our master "retreat."

Money Tips from 1948

We got a kick out of watching this video this morning. Nanna, Ruth--I think you'll enjoy this 10 minute clip. Mom--you need to click on the video twice to make it run.

Bryan encourages everyone to check out the sweet camera at the end. In our story, a new MacBook Pro is the camera.

Breakfast Conversation

Ashley: Honey, do you want me to sprinkle some flax seed on your oatmeal?
Bryan: No thanks.
Ashley: Where are you going to get your omega-3s?
Bryan: From the sun.

A Free Saturday!!

Bryan doesn't have to work today! We celebrated the morning with stuffed French toast, yummy 8-o-clock coffee and playing with Katie (go figure!). The day is hardly half over, and we shot some cute pictures of her.

Play Date with Peyton #2

Katie met up again with her friend, Peyton. She watched him most of the time, while Peyton tried eating her bib and pulling on her hair. Peyton is only 2 weeks older and 3 lbs heavier than Katie, but he feels so much heavier!
