Weekend with Grandma

Ashley and I went to Madison this past weekend and grandma watched the girls. They spent a lot of time outdoors playing. The girls even helped our neighbors plant their garden.

Daddy's little helper

This past weekend we (Bryan) planted three raspberry bushes along the side of our house. Katie loves helping out her dad. Check out the new pink gloves she mostly wears while helping.

600lbs of dirt

This past weekend we (Bryan) added 600 lbs of dirt, peat moss and 55 gallons of manure to prep our garden.

Our garden last year was about 30 sq ft.

This year we doubled our space to about 60 sq ft.

Keeping it real: the garden

We have days when we feel that our house is falling apart. Some days, we think our yard is falling apart.

This year, we decided to expand our garden from from one box to two boxes. But in order to expand, we needed to have a tree stump and a pole removed.

Carl from A New Leaf Tree Service quoted us $175 for the job.

Little did we know that the pole would be near-impossible to remove (it was grounded in cement).

Five minutes after arriving at our home, the stump was removed.

Four hours later, the pole was not removed. Rather, Carl did his best--he was able to turn it a bury it deep enough so that our garden could be planted on top of it.

Carl said that he earned every penny. We agree.

Going in the Ground

On Sunday, we put some veggies in our garden. (Actually, we filled our garden but still have some veggies in the green house. We'll put these in the garden in case some plants don't make it.)
