I think I need a new camera...
Birthday Party - part two

Goodbye, Willie!
Well, the death of MJ really didn't shock me...he's just another major celebrity going over the hill with personal and public problems. My big shock of the day was the resignation of Memphis Mayor Willie Herenton!!! I never thought this proud man would leave his post!
A bit of irony: while visiting my grandparents over the weekend, I asked Pappaw if Willie was still in his seat. "Oh, yes," he said with a sigh.

Getting ready for Katie's party
Cake is ordered--what could be more important? We're trying out a specialty cake shop in Pewaukee: Cakes While You Wait. Can't wait to eat the buttercream icing!

We are OOT!
We're out of touch with the blog for a few days--Ashley and Katie are in TN, and Bryan is doing some home projects. Stay cool--it's 104 and humid in TN and 95 and humid in Milwaukee!

Project Master Bedroom--Completed!
We've been in our house for 2 years, and we finally finished our bedroom! We are deliberate when it comes to decorating because we like to incorporate family heirlooms into our design, and we are willing to wait to find the "right" accents. Special thanks to Ashley's mom for the birthday money--the lamps and accents (pictures, pillows, etc) are from you!
Jimmy brought the rug back from Turkey when he was stationed there in 2002. We built the rest of the room off the rug. The chair is an antique, and there is a tiny "baby" chair to match it. The cedar chest is also old--from Memommie's house.
For those who care: upper walls are vanilla and the lower walls are coral. Our accents are light blue.
Ashley's granddaddy bought this bookself with glass cabinets from a preacher in Dyersburg. He paid $100 for it, and I think he bought it in the 1980s. I think the cabinet is from the 1940s.

Below is our cherry Amish bed and antique cherry lamp stands. Bryan especially likes the center pillow!
And finally, here is the cherry antique dresser and the "baby" chair. I can't wait until Katie sits in it! Together we can rock and read stories. Bryan's mom and dad used to refinish antiques, and the dresser (along with the nightstands) were projects.
Pool Party at the Monterey!
Our old apartment complex had a pool party yesterday. The assistant manager invited us to grab some food and enjoy the pool! Once Katie got used to the water, she had fun kicking her legs and trying to grab a slippery beach ball.

It's alive...
Over Memorial day weekend my mother helped me plant some grass seed in our front lawn. This was a patch of dirt that has not had any grass growing on it since we moved in, and probably longer then that. Well now we have a nice area of green grass growing.

Climbing the stairs...
Katie enjoys going up the stairs. But going down is something we need to work on.
